Understanding Your Finances

Budgeting is more than tracking numbers. It is being intentional with what God has entrusted to you.

Why budget?

A well planned budget helps you:

  • Take control of your financial life
  • Make informed spending decisions
  • Plan for future needs and goals
  • Increase your capacity for generosity
  • Reduce financial stress and anxiety

Getting started

Before you build your budget, gather these:

  • Recent pay stubs or income statements
  • Bank and credit card statements
  • Bills and recurring expenses
  • Loan statements and payment schedules
  • Recent receipts for regular purchases

Biblical principles

Scripture has plenty to say about managing what we have been given.

Plan ahead and count the cost

Luke 14:28-30

Be faithful with what you have

Luke 16:10-11

Avoid the burden of debt

Proverbs 22:7

Save for the future

Proverbs 21:20

Practice generosity

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Why we bother with any of this

A budget is not the point. Freedom to be generous is. See what Scripture says about the whole subject.
